About us

Our Membership
Cascade was created in 2002 by the amalgamation of two choruses, Shades of Harmony and  Harbour Lights.    Some of the Chorus have been singing Barbershop for more than twenty years, some for less than a year.    We are always ready to welcome new members, so if you are female, over sixteen years of age and love to sing contact us.  Our current membership, over 30 women of all ages, meets to rehearse each Wednesday evening in Catherington, between Waterlooville and Petersfield, Hants.

Harmony
The chorus comes together each week to sing unaccompanied four part harmony.   The four parts are Tenor, Lead, Baritone and Bass with tenor being the highest and bass the lowest.  The Lead section usually sings the melody while tenor, baritone and bass harmonise with them.

Quality
Our Director, Jill encourages us to constantly reassess our performance. Barbershop coaches and our Music Team pass on their expertise to improve our vocal quality and delivery.  There is always a new song to be learnt to keep our material fresh and our performances vibrant.

Performances
Our varied repertoire adapts itself for many occasions, including weddings, fetes, concerts, parties, retirement homes and Christmas functions.   We have sung on BBC TV as well as local radio.  Our singing has supported local charities such as The Rowans Hospice as well as Children in Need and Breast Cancer Care.   We have won cups in Portsmouth and Gosport Music Festivals.   Some of our repertoire is also available on CD.

Social
Each year our friendly group is involved in social events with family and friends or other Barbershop Choruses which always provide the opportunity for lots of singing.
